Book & Bible Repair
Preservation

The Full Story

What We Do

We treat every volume as an individual project. After a careful assessment, we recommend and perform the repairs that best protect the book’s integrity while maintaining its original look and sentimental value.

Common services

  • Condition assessment  — we evaluate each book and propose the most appropriate restoration steps.

  • Cover, spine & rebind work — repair or replace worn, broken, or detached spines; rebind using Smyth sewing or other appropriate methods.

  • Cover restoration — repair or replace leather, cloth, or laminated covers; color-matching and gentle cleaning.

  • Page repair & mending — flattening, tear repair, hinge reinforcement, and safe surface cleaning.

  • Preservation enclosures — custom slipcases, clamshell boxes, and archival housings for long-term protection.

  • Signature & document insertion — careful insertion of loose documents, signed pages, or prospectuses into the restored book.

  • Digitization & searchable PDFs — high-quality scanning, bookmarking to your index, and delivery on secure digital media for archiving or everyday access.

Family Bible Specialties

Family Bibles often contain handwritten records and inscriptions that are priceless. We focus on preserving those personal elements while restoring the physical book:

  • Preserve handwriting and genealogical entries while stabilizing fragile pages.

  • Repair or replace covers with sympathetic materials (leatherette, leather, or cloth) to match the original style.

  • Provide archival-quality enclosures for display and storage.

  • Offer digitization so family records are backed up and easy to share.

Our Approach

  • Respectful conservation: We preserve as much of the original material and appearance as possible.

  • Transparent recommendations: You receive a clear, written treatment plan and cost estimate before work begins.

  • Skilled craftsmanship: Repairs are performed by trained technicians who understand both aesthetics and archival standards.

  • Archival materials: We use acid-free, lignin-free, and conservation-grade supplies whenever possible.

How to Submit a Book

  1. Contact us with photos (cover, spine, representative pages, and any areas of concern).

  2. We’ll provide an initial assessment and recommend next steps.

  3. Ship or drop off your book following our packaging guidelines (we’ll provide instructions).

  4. After an in-person inspection we’ll confirm the treatment plan and cost.

  5. We perform the work and return your restored book in protective packaging (and digital files, if requested).

Note: For delicate or extremely valuable items we may recommend an in-person consultation before finalizing a treatment plan.

Care Tips (Quick Wins)

  • Store books upright on a shelf away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

  • Keep humidity stable — extreme moisture or dryness harms bindings and paper.

  • Handle fragile pages with clean, dry hands or gloves.

  • Use archival boxes or slipcases for long-term storage.

  • Avoid adhesive tapes — they cause long-term damage.
